Richardson Racing fight back for double top ten at Oulton Park

T

he Richardson Racing team battled back from a tough start to the weekend at Oulton Park to secure a brace of top ten finishes from the third round of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB.

The Corby-based team made the trip to Cheshire on the back of a battling top ten finish at Brands Hatch two weeks earlier, Will headed for the Cheshire circuit looking to gain further experience in Britain's fastest one make series, and with his focus on improving on his ninth place in the championship standings.

Friday testing would prove to be a challenge for the team as mechanical issues outside its control limited Will to less than ten laps, putting him on the back foot heading into qualifying on one of the trickiest circuits on the calendar.

It meant his performance on a drying circuit in qualifying was particularly impressive, as he put his distinctively-liveried car into tenth place on the grid with a fastest lap little more than a second off pole position.

A solid opening lap when the first 18 lap encounter got underway later on Saturday saw Will rise up into seventh spot and from there he would enjoy a race long battle with Ross Wylie, holding his rival at bay until the penultimate lap when he finally managed to edge ahead.

That still left Will with an encouraging eighth place finish ahead of the second race of the weekend live on ITV4.

Running on wet tyres on a drying track, the second race would prove to be a challenge for the whole field but Will rose to the challenge and was involved in a huge battle for fifth place when a small error at Druids saw him suffer a spin.

Dropping down to tenth spot, Will made the most of a brief safety car period to close in on the cars ahead and battled his way back up to eighth spot at the finish for a second points finish of the weekend.

The team now heads straight to Knockhill next weekend for the fourth round of the season.

"Going into qualifying with hardly any running on Friday was a struggle but we got our heads down, did our best and it was all positive from there," he said. "I had a good run in race one and then in race two our pace was really good and there was just one small error at Druids that cost me some time.

"However, considering I haven't driven the car in these conditions and didn't have many laps coming into the weekend, I'm pleased to come away from Oulton Park with two points finishes.

"This has been the most difficult weekend so far with the limited running we had, but we have worked really hard this weekend and the way we have fought back and showed we can match the front runners for pace gives me a lot of confidence to take to Knockhill."
