Blake Angliss Ready For Ginetta GT5 Challenge Debut
Motorsport rising star Blake Angliss is set to make his long-awaited car-racing debut this weekend as he tackles the first of a three round spell in the 2020 Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge.
The teenage talent has signed with leading team Richardson Racing to compete in one of the most competitive one-make championships in the UK, with his debut meeting taking place at Donington Park this weekend (19/20 September).
Angliss makes his transition to car-racing with a great pedigree in karting. The Coventry based racer completed three years across the ultra-competitive Junior and Mini X30 classes, with a fantastic 2019 campaign featuring wins in the PF Plate and Classic Cup at PFi.
Either side of a pause in motorsport competition due to the COVID-19 lockdown, Angliss has been continuing his karting progression with leading team with MBR (Mick Barrett Racing), who have a history of nurturing young talent including current Formula 1 stars Lando Norris and Alex Albon.
Competing in the ultra-competitive IAME Senior X30 class, Angliss has produced a number of front-running performances and over the remainder of 2020, he’ll dovetail his karting campaign with his Ginetta action.
Blake Angliss:“I’m really excited to be making my Ginetta GT5 Challenge debut this weekend. It’s been a long wait with the season being delayed due to COVID-19, but the time has come and I can’t wait to get on track at Donington Park.
“I’m under no illusions as to the size of the challenge facing me. Everyone on the grid has at least half a season in the series under their belt and it’s an incredibly competitive grid, but alongside a top team in Richardson Racing I’m confident I can put in a strong showing.
“The championship is ideal for me as a first step into car-racing, with close competition in equal machinery. As a rookie, I’m looking to go out there and enjoy myself, as well as learn as much as possible from these final three events of the year.”
Angliss’ Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge debut will feature three races around the Donington Park Grand Prix circuit in support of the British GT Championship this weekend (19/20 September).
His following two outings will both take place at Silverstone: racing alongside the British Touring Car Championship on the National circuit (26/27 September), before competing on the full Grand Prix circuit alongside British GT (7/8 November).
